Eggs - Fast Food Changes The Near Perfect Food
Eggs, nature's near perfect food...except when fast food companies manipulate it. I read an great article by David DiSalvo regarding the manipulation that the fast food companies make to their breakfast sandwiches.
It was a real eye opening. I usually have no problem eating my breakfast at home. But on occassion, time has been short so I have relied on Subway or McDonalds a time or two. After all, I emphasize "better health", not "perfect".
Well, I am rethinking that when it comes to their breakfast products now. Especially Subway! Shame on them and their "fresh" slogan. When does fresh have a long list of ingredients...some I can't pronounce.
As published by Subway, here are their ingredients for an Omelet Patty (Regular):Whole e.ggs, egg whites, water, nonfat dry milk, premium egg blend (isolated pea product, salt, citric acid, dextrose, guar gum, xanthan gum, extractive of spice, propylene glycol and not more than 2% calcium silicate and glycerin to prevent caking), soybean oil, butter alternative (liquid and hydrogenated soybean oil, salt, soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavors, beta carotene (color), TBHQ and citric acid added to protect flavor, dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent added), salt, beta-carotene (color).
Holy Cow!....or should I say chicken.
As David further explains, "Propylene glycol, a solvent for food colors and flavorings, is also used in anti-freeze, to lubricate air-conditioner compressors, and in deodorant sticks.
